Showcase Time: The Stormlander

Welcome to the first showcase post. Today, I want to show you the start of my new short story: The Stormlander. It is about a boy who get sucked into Minecraft Dungeons and has to save the overworld from the reins of the Arch-Illager.

One day, in the town of Clothwell Bay, a 12-year-old named Ethan sat on his living room sofa, gripping his Xbox controller. He was deep into Minecraft Dungeons, his favourite game. As he guided his hero through the pixelated world, hacking and slashing through mobs, he imagined what it would be like to be there for real—to wield a powerful weapon, face the Arch-Illager, and save the Overworld

But for now, he was just a kid on a sofa, stuffing spicy Doritos into his mouth, the tangy heat coating his tongue in orange dust.

The Controller

Days later, when Ethan got home from school, he tossed his backpack aside and settled into his usual routine—grab the controller, turn on the Xbox, and dive back into the game. But as he reached for his controller, something felt… off.

It was glowing.

He frowned. Maybe it was just the sunlight catching the plastic at a weird angle? Shaking off the unease, he picked it up, ready to play.

Then it vibrated.

A small tremor at first. Then stronger. And stronger. Ethan’s heart pounded as he tightened his grip. The room around him began to shift. Colours swirled, stretching, and twisting like paint dripping in reverse. Shapes bled into one another, bending in ways that defied gravity. The world spun, his vision darkened, and then—

everything went black...

Into the game

When he awoke, his head throbbed. He blinked, his vision adjusting to the bright light above. Something felt… strange.

He sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes—except, his hands weren’t hands. They were blocky.

His breath caught in his throat as he looked around. Everything was cubic. The ground, the trees, even the sky—like something out of a video game.

Then it hit him.

"I'm in Minecraft Dungeons..."
